Make Your Own Luck

Today seems to be screaming at me to change. It’s one of those odd days where I’m not feeling positive about many things, where I feel I’m forcing myself to do what I know I should be. I was legitimately tired enough this morning to question what time it was when my alarm sounded. Tired enough to wonder where the hell I was. And I desperately didn’t want to do my workout routine, even though I know “endorphins make people happy”. I managed the normal 40 minutes of intensity, but something felt off about it. Perhaps it was the routine itself, or the music. I wondered where the excitement and momentum went. And I knew I couldn’t just sit in the kitchen pretending to write while surfing the internet. Power down, unplug, grab that small book I started reading and read a little bit more.

“Have you ever wondered why some people seem to have all the luck? Why some people are always in the driver’s seat? In general, “drivers” elicit the best from themselves and others by focusing on:
Forgiveness vs Anger
Others vs Self
Opportunities vs Problems
Gratitude vs Envy
Abundance vs Scarcity
Today vs Yesterday
Building up vs Breaking down
Humor vs Drama
Controllable things vs Uncontrollable things
Giving vs TakingThe more you focus on the positive side of life, the more you will attract these things. Focus on forgiveness, and you will find the world forgiving. Focus on humor, and your life will be full of laughs. Focus on drama and your life will be a soap opera.
The truth is that being luck doesn’t have much to do with luck at all. Winners create their own luck by constantly checking their focus. They appear lucky because their focus has put them in the right place to make good things happen. In other words, luck is 90% preparation and 10% opportunity.
I was instructed again on the nature of change and how people either use it to their advantage or let life happen to them. When I finished two chapters and made lunch, I caught ten minutes of Gordon Ramsay and his declarations that a restaurant owner need to change things if he was going to keep his business afloat. And then they talked about the owner’s fear of change. Okay Universe, I hear you loud and clear, it’s the execution that’s a little troublesome.
“Life’s rewards go to those who let their actions rise above their excuses.” – Unknown
And my dad just returned home from work and this is what he said in regards to an errand I have to run, “Make it happen.” Yeah, it seems I should.
